Rubbish Collection Brixton Modern Slavery Statement
Rubbish Collection Brixton is committed to conducting all aspects of our operations in an ethical, transparent and responsible manner. This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and exploitation within our business and our supply chains. It applies to all employees, agency workers, contractors and suppliers who provide goods or services to us.
Our Zero-Tolerance Approach
We have a clear zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking. We will not knowingly engage with, support or do business with any organisation, individual or third party that is involved in, or complicit with, any form of modern slavery or exploitative labour practice. Compliance with this policy is a condition of working with Rubbish Collection Brixton, and any breach may result in termination of employment, contract or commercial relationship.
Modern slavery can occur in many forms, including forced labour, bonded labour, child labour, servitude, domestic servitude, forced marriage and human trafficking. We are committed to identifying and addressing all such risks in a proportionate and effective way, and to fostering a culture in which exploitation is never tolerated or ignored.
Governance, Responsibility and Training
Overall responsibility for this Modern Slavery Statement rests with the senior management team of Rubbish Collection Brixton. Managers at all levels are responsible for ensuring that their teams understand and comply with our zero-tolerance policy and associated procedures.
We provide training and guidance to relevant staff so they can recognise the signs of modern slavery, understand how it can arise in waste management and related services, and know how to escalate any concerns. New starters are made aware of our expectations during induction, and refresher guidance is provided where appropriate.
Supply Chain Standards and Supplier Audits
Our supply chain includes providers of vehicles, equipment, uniforms, cleaning and maintenance services, and various professional and support services. We expect all suppliers to uphold the same high standards on human rights and labour practices that we set for ourselves.
Suppliers are required to confirm that they do not use forced, bonded or involuntary labour, that they do not employ workers under the legal minimum age, and that all workers are free to leave their employment on reasonable notice. We may request evidence of policies, procedures and due diligence to support these commitments.
We conduct risk-based supplier audits focusing on those areas where the risk of modern slavery is considered higher, such as subcontracted labour and low-skilled, high-turnover roles. Audits may include reviews of employment records, right-to-work documentation, working hours, wage payments and accommodation arrangements where relevant. Where non-compliance is identified, we work with suppliers to implement corrective actions within an agreed timeframe, and we may suspend or terminate relationships if serious issues are not resolved.
Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing Channels
Rubbish Collection Brixton encourages all employees, contractors, agency workers and suppliers to report any concerns or suspicions about modern slavery or unethical labour practices, whether within our own operations or in our supply chains.
Concerns can be raised through existing reporting channels, including line managers, senior management and designated HR contacts. Individuals may report issues confidentially and without fear of retaliation. We will investigate reports promptly and sensitively, taking appropriate action where any form of exploitation is identified, which may include notifying relevant authorities.
We are committed to protecting whistleblowers who raise genuine concerns in good faith. Victimisation or retaliation against anyone who reports a concern will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action where appropriate.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that combating modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility and that risks can evolve over time as our business, supply chains and regulatory environment change. We are therefore committed to continuously improving our approach and strengthening our controls.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least annually to assess its effectiveness and to identify opportunities for improvement, including updates to training, supplier due diligence and audit processes. Where necessary, we will revise our policies and procedures to reflect emerging best practice and legal requirements.
This statement has been approved by the senior management of Rubbish Collection Brixton and represents our ongoing commitment to preventing modern slavery and protecting the rights and dignity of all those who work with, or are affected by, our business.
